Wheels and tyres. Rotation, replacement, balancing and leaving. Snow chains. “Секретки” wheels. Elimination of trembling of a wheel.

Rotation can be made for reasons of economy not less often than through 5000 km, or at occurrence of signs of non-uniform deterioration of protectors. However remember that in case of successful rotation of all four wheels you, eventually, should replace all tyres simultaneously.

Though in interests of preservation of optimum road performance to spend rotation it is not recommended.
As carrying out of the given procedure demands a car raising over the earth and removals of wheels, check up at the same time and work of brake mechanisms (address to Section Check of brake system).

Even if you are not going to make rotation, at least check up reliability of an inhaling of bolts of fastening of wheels.

To spend rotation follows under the special scheme so that the direction of their rotation did not vary.

Address to the information in Section “Poddomkrachivanie and towage” Introductions for a correct raising of the car and wheel change.

The car should be lifted лебедкой or to establish it on support that all four wheels have been lifted over the earth. Make sure that the car is reliably fixed!

After the termination of procedure of rotation check up and adjust pressure in tyres and do not forget to check up reliability of an inhaling of bolts of fastening of wheels.

Replacement and balancing of wheels

At replacement of wheels it is recommended to keep a direction of their rotation as direction change results in raised to deterioration of tyres. It is not recommended to rearrange also forward wheels back and on the contrary.
At an inhaling of bolts of fastening of wheels it is necessary to apply necessarily динамометрический a key. It guarantees a uniform inhaling of all bolts.

At replacement and dismantle бескамерных tyres from safety reasons it is necessary to replace the rubber gate necessarily.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Ослабьте bolts of fastening of a wheel on the car standing on the earth. For this purpose tighten a lay brake or include the first transfer so that the car was not rolled away.

2. Remove a screw-driver a cap with запорных bolts of fastening of a wheel. Insert against the stop a key into the lock. Thus шлиц costs in parallel to an oval groove. Turn a key on 90 and remove with a cover. Installation is carried out in return sequence. At вынимании a key the plug should nestle on a bolt of fastening of a wheel. Put on a cap. a/b - the bolt of fastening of a wheel, is zinced/is chromeplated, with - запорный a bolt, chromeplated. Address to an accompanying illustration.

3. If there is a protection of bolts of fastening of a wheel, the wheel acts in film as follows: a cover (1) slightly turn to the left a key and remove. Then insert an adapter (3) into a bolt (2) and turn away it. Address to an accompanying illustration.

Necessarily carry with itself in the complete set of the tool an adapter (3).

4. Lift and establish the car on supports.

5. Turn a wheel so that the gate (the bottom arrow on an accompanying illustration) was below.

6. Before wheel removal mark with a felt-tip pen position of a disk concerning a nave that отбалансированное the wheel has occupied the former position. Address to an accompanying illustration.

Depending on disk type various bolts of fastening are applied. It is necessary to apply only the bolts admitted by firm BMW.

7. At installation not original disks from easy metals it is necessary to apply also bolts of fastening corresponding to them instead of the original. It is recommended for the spare wheel BMW applied earlier, to have with itself corresponding bolts of fastening
8. Disks from easy metals have a covering a colourless varnish for protection against corrosion. At wheel replacement watch to damaging a covering. At damage correct defect a varnish.
9. Before wheel installation clear aligning corbel on a nave and an adjoining surface of a wheel of a dirt and the rests of greasing and slightly grease aligning corbel подшипниковой with greasing.

10. Clear bolts of fastening of a dirt. At damage or corrosion bolts replace. The carving of bolts should not be oiled or plastic greasing. Address to an accompanying illustration.

11. Before wheel installation into place insert into the top carving aperture assembly оправку. Such оправка is available in the complete set of the onboard tool. After installation of several bolts оправку remove.

12. Tighten bolts of fastening of a wheel cross-wise in stages. The moment of an inhaling for all bolts makes 100 Nanometers. Address to an accompanying illustration.

The unilateral inhaling of bolts of fastening or their inhaling with the various moment a wheel and-or a nave can be drawn. At installation of new wheels through 1000 km of run fastening bolts are necessary for tightening the established moment of an inhaling.

If the car is equipped by navigating system after wheel or tyre replacement it is necessary to make system calibration.

Balancing of wheels

Serial wheels pass balancing on manufacturer. Balancing is necessary for elimination of non-uniform distribution of weights and discrepancies of manufacturing of details.

At car movement неотбалансированные wheels lead to jolting. At high speed the steering wheel starts to shiver.

As a rule, trembling is shown in a certain range of speeds and disappears at reduction and increase in speed.

The similar phenomena lead in due course to damages of hinges of a suspension bracket, the steering mechanism and shock-absorbers.

Wheels it is necessary to balance each 20 000 km of run and after each repair which lead to redistribution of weights on wheels.

Recommendations about care of tyres

Tyres have "memory". It means that maloperation with them, in particular, frequent arrival on a border of road or moving through rails, leads after a while to their damage.

Clearing of tyres

It is not recommended to clear the tyre steam stream. If the device nozzle is too close to the tyre it leads to destruction of a rubber layer within several seconds even if cold water is applied. The tyre which has passed such clearing, should be replaced for the purpose of safety of operation of the car.

The tyre, long time were in contact to oil or greasing is subject to replacement also. Thus the tyre in the given places вспучивается, then accepts the usual form and outwardly does not look damaged. However after that loading ability of the tyre decreases.

Storage of tyres

To store tyres it is necessary in a dark, dry and cool place. Contact of tyres to oil or greasing is not recommended.

Wheels should be stored in horizontal position or be suspended for disks in garage or a cellar.

Before removal we prick it is necessary to lift in them pressure of air (on 0.3 - 0.5 bar).

Winter tyres should be established on the disks.

Обкатка tyres

Tyres have very smooth external surface. Therefore new tyres should be обкатаны (it concerns and a spare wheel). After обкатки the tyre surface becomes rough.

The first 300 km it is necessary to move with new tyres especially cautiously on wet roads.

Snow chains

To establish snow chains it is possible only on driving wheels (on a back axis). At application of wheels in the size of 17 inches installation of snow chains is impossible.

At installation of snow chains speed of movement of the car should not exceed 50 km/hour. On roads, on having snow and ice coverings, snow chains it is necessary to remove.

It is necessary to apply only the chains admitted by firm BMW.

Additional installation “секреток” wheels

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Ослабьте bolts of fastening of a wheel.
2. Lift and establish the car on supports so that the wheel freely rotated.
3. Turn away bolts of fastening of a wheel so that the wheel freely moved on a nave.
4. Turn a wheel so that the gate was below
5. Turn the top bolt of fastening of a wheel and insert instead of it замковый a bolt (the top arrow).
6. Turn out a bolt of fastening of a wheel and insert instead of it замковый a bolt (the top arrow).
7. In this position (замковый a bolt above/gate below) wrap a cross/crosswise by hand fastening bolts.
8. Tighten fastening bolts cross-wise the moment of 100 Nanometers.

Such way of installation замкового a bolt reduces a disbalance arising owing to installation of heavier замкового of a bolt to a minimum.

Elimination of trembling of a wheel of the car

Steering wheel trembling at achievement by the car of certain speed, as a rule, is a consequence of disbalance of wheels.

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Check up pressure of air in tyres. If necessary pump up them.
2. Make a control trip. As it is possible establish a cause of defect more precisely: achievement of certain speed, quality of road, the moment of an input and an exit from turn.
3. Lift and establish the car on supports.
4. Check up a centering of disks of wheels. Thus the nave or a brake drum should act over boards of disks of wheels or, at least, to be заподлицо. Otherwise the disk is subject to replacement.
5. Check up a suspension bracket. For this purpose it is necessary to check up резинометаллические support, hinges, shock-absorbers and disks.
6. Remove wheels and clear them. If it is necessary, remove from a tyre profile small stones.
7. Check up depth of a profile of tyres and compare among themselves. At wrong deterioration of tyres in front and-or behind it is necessary to check up installation of wheels and to adjust. Thus convergence deviations should not leave for the top border of the admission.

For measurement of geometry of wheels the special equipment which is available only on HUNDRED is required.

8. Make a trial trip and check up, whether malfunctions are eliminated.

Check of radial and axial palpation of wheels

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Lift the car and establish it on supports. Bring a measuring tip of the indicator to external, and then to a lateral surface of the tyre. Slowly turn a wheel a hand and take readings of the indicator. A chalk note a place of the maximum palpation.
2. If palpation exceeds the value established by Specifications, wheels it is necessary отбалансировать in stationary conditions. Thus wheels by the balancing car should be отцентрованы the same as on the car Centering of wheels on the central aperture in a conic clutch is not spent. Elimination of radial palpation

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Lower air in the tyre and press a tyre edge into disk bed.
2. Turn the tyre on 120 on a disk.
3. Pump up the tyre and again check up radial palpation.
4. If the maximum value is exceeded, turn the tyre on a disk on 120 and check up radial palpation.
5. If palpation does not exceed admissible value, отбалансируйте a wheel.

Check of radial and axial palpation of disks

ORDER OF PERFORMANCE CHECK REMOVAL INSTALLATION

1. Establish a disk without the tyre by the balancing car or on the car. Establish the indicator.
2. Check up radial H and axial S disk palpation. On extreme internal planes radial palpation, on lateral internal planes - axial palpation is checked. Thus the local deviation of the indicator owing to roughnesses is not considered.
3. If values exceed specified in Specifications, the disk is subject to replacement.

Installation of wheels on the car

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. On the car lifted on supports establish wheels so that the place with the maximum radial palpation was above. In this position tighten bolts of fastening of a wheel динамометрическим a key the moment resulted in Specifications.

If the difference in deterioration of separate tyres is insignificant, wheels with small radial palpation and the maximum disbalance establish on a forward axis.

2. Make a trial trip. If still forward part of the car has fluctuations and the steering wheel shivers, the reason is the residual disbalance which is necessary for eliminating by additional balancing.

Balancing of wheels on the car

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. At balancing carrying out приводных wheels necessarily establish both tyres of one axis on rollers.
2. The drive of wheels should be carried out from the car engine that wheels rotated synchronously.
3. Make a trial trip.

If malfunctions completely are not eliminated, it specifies in presence of radial palpation or factory marriage of one or several tyres. HUNDRED they are not defined by means. To eliminate them it is possible only replacement of forward and-or back tyres. Tyres should be replaced only парно on one axis.
